Jacobs describes her experience at Wide Awake Indian School and her involvement with American Indian advocacy at a young age. Jacobs went on to become chief of the Waccamaw tribe and a minister. This interview was conducted by John Horan on September 9, 2024 in collaboration with the North Carolina American Indian Heritage Commission. The Oral History collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina. This unit seeks to work with individuals and communities across the state to record and preserve the lived experience of North Carolinians, as told by North Carolinians and to make these histories accessible for generations to come. This interview contains content that may be harmful or difficult to view, including language that reflects outdated, biased, offensive views as well as descriptions of conflict, racism, and violence.
