Papers of Joseph L. (1860). Among miscellaneous papers are a Craven Co. grant to Capt. John Hawks (1771) and a deed signed by trustees of New Bern relating to estate of Francis Hawks, Sr. (1832). Printed material includes issues of the Orphan's Friend, with articles on North Carolina history by Fred A. Olds, and newspaper clippings concerning Anne Preston Bridgers, a North Carolina memorial at Gettysburg, Frances Fisher Tiernan, Capitol Square, St. John's Church in Williamsboro, Fort Macon, Edward Buncombe (1742-1778), Lumbee and Cherokee Indians, and future of American women. Also a bookseller's list of North Carolina pamphlets; the Press Bulletin of the Philippine Commission of Independence (Washington, D.C.), Sept.-Oct., 1922; and reprinted speeches of Ohio Congressman Martin L.
