It is very hot there and they have done a lot of marching. He hasn't had any happiness since his brother died. He gives a few details of Charley's death and writes that he is \"...at a grate lost sence I lost charley tel I am all Most crasey but I hope that I will get a long with it.' He mentions his wife either buying or selling honey. If the regiment marches to Fredericksburg, he wants \"father\" (whether his own father or his father-in-law is unclear) to visit him there. He writes about the high price of food. He hasn't drawn his pay yet for this month but he still has some money. He wants to come home and thinks the war will end soon and that the Union will win. He describes having to bury Charley and how much his brother wanted to come home. He then addresses his mother-in-law, Catherine Ramsey; he tells her he hasn't gotten a letter from her although he has written to her. He has to go barefooted. It is very hot and several of the men fainted yesterday during the march. He wishes he could visit her and have some watermelon to eat. He asks how her garden is doing and mentions how much he and Charley wanted to come home at Christmas."},{"label":"Identifier","value":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630802"}],"description":"Letter: John Futch to Martha Futch and Catherine Ramsey, Aug. 2, 1863","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/62ebc116-9ff1-4907-9afc-5532463236cf/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630802_001","height":1413,"width":924,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f9426a23-8eb1-49fc-8ce2-60da0dda55a3/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f9426a23-8eb1-49fc-8ce2-60da0dda55a3","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1413,"width":924},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/62ebc116-9ff1-4907-9afc-5532463236cf/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f9426a23-8eb1-49fc-8ce2-60da0dda55a3/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/62ebc116-9ff1-4907-9afc-5532463236cf/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630802_002","height":1390,"width":1776,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/39bcbf41-cbb9-435c-a6d7-a7b5a4c15f89/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/39bcbf41-cbb9-435c-a6d7-a7b5a4c15f89","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1390,"width":1776},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/62ebc116-9ff1-4907-9afc-5532463236cf/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/39bcbf41-cbb9-435c-a6d7-a7b5a4c15f89/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/62ebc116-9ff1-4907-9afc-5532463236cf/canvas/_3","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630802_003","height":1390,"width":905,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/ec1cb600-044a-4d78-945d-8558d9b088a2/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/ec1cb600-044a-4d78-945d-8558d9b088a2","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":1390,"width":905},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/62ebc116-9ff1-4907-9afc-5532463236cf/canvas/_3","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/ec1cb600-044a-4d78-945d-8558d9b088a2/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/f9426a23-8eb1-49fc-8ce2-60da0dda55a3/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/logo"}
