S. Browne to Gov. Henry Toole Clark dated Feb. 11, 1862. In the letter Mr. Browne identifies himself as a 74 year old man who owns 45 slaves and whose only son is already in the Confederate army. His overseer, William D. Gladson, has just been conscripted into the military and Browne asks the governor to release Gladson from service because he does not think he can get another overseer.
