He was glad to get her letter and hear that all is well at home. The regiment crossed the Potomac River on the 18th and marched through Pennsylvania and Maryland. He mentions the battle of Gettysburg, the death of his brother Charley, and lists the number of dead and wounded in the battle. Their rations are short and their duty is hard. There has been a lot of rainy weather, making the rivers full and hard to cross.
