Included are  extracts from minutes of the General Court and Court of Chancery  (1695-1729); from a book of orders, judgments, and decrees of Gov.  Edward Hyde and the council (1712); and from a minute book of the  Society of Friends, Albemarle Co. (1702-1729). Other transcripts  are of council journals (1712-1728); letters of Lt. Gov. Alexander  Spotswood of Virginia (1710-1712); instructions for Gov. Francis  Nicholson of South Carolina (1720); a commission to justices of  the peace, Albemarle Co. (1679); and proceedings of the Pitt Co.  committee of safety (Aug., 1774-Aug., 1776). Original documents  include certificate of induction of Rev. James Reed (1765); bonds  and contracts relating to building of a chapel and church in  Granville Parish (1771); autobiographical memoir of career of Rev.  John Ravenscroft (1810-1819); and journal of the upper house of  Assembly (Dec. 4-11, 1773). A number of original letters and printed  broadsides and circulars relate to the duel between John Stanly and  Richard Dobbs Spaight, Sr. (1802), and to Federalist-Republican  politics in North Carolina (1801-1810).
