Burton formed a corporation with his wife, Nancy L. Burton, and opened his own shop in Cameron Village--Burton's Inc. From its beginning, the store carried well-designed clothing of high quality which it advertised for sale in the News and Observer and the Raleigh Times. The practice at the store seems to have been to clip its advertisements from the newspapers and to mount them in scrapbooks.
