Hines, Lenoir Co. treasurer (1859-1887) and trustee of Caswell Academy. County treasury records (1850- 1863) include receipts, lists, and reports from clerks of courts and the sheriff on collection of fees, fines, and taxes; ranger's report (1859); and court attendance tickets for jurors (1861-1863) . Paper (1867-1871) relating to Caswell Academy include deeds, list of pupils, and some student and teacher accounts. Among Hines's personal papers (1832-1889) are a slave bill of sale, bills and receipts and papers as guardian to heirs of Drewry A. Hill (1855-1886) and as administrator for estate of Kader Hines (1872). There are also land papers in Craven, Dobbs, and Lenoir counties for members of the Byrd and Williamson families (1745-1845). Printed material includes issues of the North Carolina Teacher (1885-1888) and various Baptist magazines (1858-1888).
