There is talk that they are going back to Maryland but he hopes the war will be over before then because he is tired of Maryland. They were in a battle in Pennsylvania and lost a number of soldiers there. He mentions the death of his brother Charley, although the details of his brother's death don't entirely match those he gives in other letters. They got enough to eat in Pennsylvania, but they don't now; John says that he doesn't want to eat much anyway. He plans on coming home if the regiment marches south and writes about his homesickness. Thomas and Robert Ramsey were wounded and left with the Yankees. At the end of the letter he addresses \"mother\" (likely his mother-in-law, Catherine Ramsey) and says that he hasn't gotten a letter from her. He wants to hear from her and to come home to see her soon."},{"label":"Identifier","value":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630719"}],"description":"Letter: John Futch to Martha Futch and \"Mother\" [Catherine Ramsey?], July 19, 1863","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/40cfc372-0587-4f94-b34e-ef9fbb1045f0/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630719_001","height":1499,"width":1217,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/411b9d55-353f-4edd-90c8-3b37b6a0557d/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/411b9d55-353f-4edd-90c8-3b37b6a0557d","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":1499,"width":1217},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/40cfc372-0587-4f94-b34e-ef9fbb1045f0/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/411b9d55-353f-4edd-90c8-3b37b6a0557d/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/40cfc372-0587-4f94-b34e-ef9fbb1045f0/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"PC_507_Futch_Letters_18630719_002","height":1499,"width":1217,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/b1564823-5e9e-4587-87b6-c3dc6ca679b2/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/b1564823-5e9e-4587-87b6-c3dc6ca679b2","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":1499,"width":1217},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/40cfc372-0587-4f94-b34e-ef9fbb1045f0/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/b1564823-5e9e-4587-87b6-c3dc6ca679b2/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/411b9d55-353f-4edd-90c8-3b37b6a0557d/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/logo"}
