State Archives of North Carolina"},{"label":"Language","value":["English"]},{"label":"Description","value":"Papers of Nathaniel Jones of Crabtree (d. 1828) and son Kimbrough (d. 1866), Wake Co. planters, legislators, and members of the Council of State; of Kimbrough's third wife Mary Warren; and of the family of Mary Green and Kimbrough Jones, Jr. Correspondence from 1817 to 1873 chiefly concerns family members in Tennessee and Alabama, with descriptions also of Texas (1839), New Orleans (1841, 1842), the Alabama legislature (1849), Chapel Hill preparing for President Polk's visit (1847), Negroes and colleges of Philadelphia (1854), and flight of civilians from Rome, Ga. (Dec., 1863). There are also comments on nullification and secession, travel, farming, slaves, schools and colleges in North Carolina and Virginia, and medical school in New York (1845). Letters from 1901 to 1940 concern the Depression and work as inspector of weights and measures (1936-1937). Collection also contains Wake Co. land records (1771-1867), estate papers, guardian papers, wills, and marriage licenses (1834-1838); slave bills of sale (1798-1854); tax lists (unidentified district, 1806, 1817); Nathaniel Jones and Company account books (1790-1793); and receipts for taxes, accounts with Raleigh merchants (1826-1936), and reward and jail fees for captured slave (1861). Other items relate to slave hire; cotton growing, including circulars from the N.C. Cotton Growers Cooperative Association (1925-1927); and various schools and colleges including ROTC instructions at NC State College (1919). Miscellaneous items include printed legislative report on internal improvements (1855); a broadside on Holden's record (1861?); wholesale price lists (1867); almanacs (1822-1894); Brian Green family record (1823-1849); article on Maj.
