Letters include one from R. M. Saunders on campaign plans and speeches scheduled (1844), one in Spanish from Mexico concerning transfer of money from Wilder to agents in New Orleans (June, 1848), three from students at Salem Female Academy (1874-1879), and a report on Chapel Hill boardinghouses and their rates (1907). Mexican War records, chiefly of men from North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, and Mississippi, comprise about two thirds of this collection and consist of vouchers for officers' pay and expenses, with name and description of each officer's servant; discharge papers; and a few pay and muster rolls. Also a Johnston Co. survey (1798) and deed (1824); estate papers of Joseph Wilder (1815); partial draft of report on finances, engines, and passenger cars of the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad (n.d.); Confederate sequestration form listing debts owed northern companies by John Maunder of Wake Co.; and a typed sketch of Wilder. Printed material consists of legislative bills, acts, and reports on UNC (1838), North Carolina militia (1846), town of Wilmington (1846), common schools (report prepared by Calvin Wiley, 1853), and the North Carolina Central Atlantic and Pacific Railroad Co. (1855); annual reports of the Fayetteville and Western Plank Road Co. (1851-1852) and the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad (1857); periodicals including the Democratic Review (Feb., 1852) and the Davis Cadet (Davis School, LaGrange, N.C., July, 1889); broadside supplement to the Democratic Newbernian about the hiring out of Jones Co. paupers to the lowest bidder, white or black (1876); Wake Co. map (1887); and Japanese commemorative postcards of \"Great White Fleet\" (1908).
