The residents believed Royal government officials were charging them excessive fees, falsifying records, and engaging in other mistreatments. The movement's name refers to the desire of these citizens to regulate their own affairs. The Regulator Movement is also referred to as the War of the Regulation or the Regulator War. The movement was led by several men including Rednap Howell, James Hunter, and Herman Husband. The rebellion culminated in the Battle of Alamance in May 1771. The War of the Regulation Papers is composed of original archival materials documenting the Regulator Movement in North Carolina, covering the period from 1768 to 1779. The collection contains military unit accounts, receipts, court and trial records, expense accounts, warrants, prisoner records, payrolls, order books, and other records from this movement. These historical records only include the perspective of the creator. The history documented may reflect the perspective of individuals who are of the same race, ethnicity, sex, religion, and/or economic background as the creator. However, it does not reflect the thoughts, emotions, nor experiences of every individual or group mentioned in or affected by the events occurring in the records."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"2 pages"},{"label":"Format","value":["Judicial records","Military records","Financial records"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["War of the Regulation Papers.
