Letters are primarily news of marriages, deaths, estate settlements, slaves, and business, some (1769-1798) concerning friends and relatives in Argyllshire, Scotland. Several letters and accounts from tutors and businessmen in New Haven and Hartford, Conn., concern education and debts of Thomas H. McNeill (1840-1842). Also letter about Kentucky politics (1860), and one about lands seized near Memphis (1865). Other material (all copied) includes Caswell Co. land grant (1784); deeds from Person Co. (1797-1817) and from Mississippi (1857-1883); will of Samuel Burke of Kentucky (1858); obituaries; notes on division of slaves; and assorted estate papers, accounts, notices.
