Starr of Fayetteville, who served in Co. F, lst Regt. N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861); and in 2nd Co. B, 36th Regt. NCT (2nd Regt. N.C. Artillery), which was later Co. B, 13th Battalion N.C. Light Artillery. Starr's military papers include commissions; original muster and descriptive roll for nine men in Starr's Light Battery; invoices and receipts for ordnance and quartermaster stores, one from William Bell, Fayetteville Arsenal (1861); orders concerning plundering by troops around Kinston (Apr., 1864), artillery at and after Battle of Bentonville, and disbandment of troops (May, 1865); Register of North Carolina Troops (officers only, 1864); and final muster rolls and paroles (Greensboro, May 1, 1865) for officers, 3rd and 13th Battalions, N.C. Light Artillery, and for Co. C, 13th Battalion. Also order putting Starr in command at Washington, N.C. (Sept., 1864), and his report on progress of works there and on civilian communication with the enemy (Oct., 1864). Starr's personal papers (1860-1873) include lists of household goods and property and letter concerning venture with L. C.
