Correspondence includes commendation from Franklin D. Roosevelt (1919); recommendations of Scales for brigadier general from Vice-President John N. Garner, Texas Senators Tom Connally and Morris Sheppard, and Del Rio (Tex.) Chamber of Commerce (1934-1935); letters arranging visits with General Elizondo and other Mexican officials (1934); memorial to Scales from Gen. Douglas MacArthur (1935); and a description of a private White House dinner with President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1938). Also rosters of West Point (1894) and Ft. Clark (1927); resolution for military pay increase (1930); items relating to entertainments at Ft. Clark; newspapers from Camp Daraga in the Philippines, Ft. Sheridan (1917), Motor Transport Corps (1919), and U.S. Army Transport Thomas (1926); the Cavalry Journal (Sept.-Oct., 1932); clipping about meeting with Mexican officers (1934); mimeographed history of the Philippine campaign by Gen.
