Other papers relating to the Bells in Carteret and Craven counties (1720-1898) include copies of wills, estate and guardian papers, deeds and other land papers, promissory notes, receipts, and accounts, shipping records and market reports (1859-1860), Federal passes, distillery licenses (1866, 1867), and commencement invitation, Harlowe Creek Academy, Carteret Co., 1868. Papers of George Henderson, Bell's Canadian son-in-law, include letter to Alexander Henderson, Quebec, from Yorkshire, England, about the potato famine (1847); certificate that George Henderson was British subject (1863); his fragmentary diary as telegraph operator with Army of the Potomac (May 4-Aug. 15, 1864) and his autobiographical sketch about work as telegrapher in Canada and the U.S. and with the U.S. Military Telegraph Corps, and life in Petersburg and New Bern after the war. Also letters about Quebec (1901), a Chicago home for elderly (1915), Henderson's insurance agency in New Bern, and his death (1932); and deeds, wills, estate papers, and obituaries (1914) of wife Lisette. Papers of daughter Emma Henderson Powell Dunn include letters about Tryon Palace restoration (1944-1945), New Bern real estate, and family history; diploma, Wesleyan Female Institute, Staunton, Va. (1891); New Bern, North Carolina by Emma H. Powell (1905); items relating to second husband John Dunn; and her will (1954) and estate papers. A few items relate to her nephews Col. Morris King Henderson and especially 2nd Lt. George F. Henderson, Army Air Corps, including military papers, (1935-1949); partial diary of journey from Los Angeles to Burma via Borneo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Rangoon to join American Volunteer Group under Gen. Claire L. Chennault (Oct.-Nov., 1941); letters from Los Angeles (1941), Borneo (1941), and England (1944); wills (1941, 1957) and letters about estate (1958). Miscellaneous material includes a copied arithmetic book (ca. 1795); sketch of the 2nd Regt. NCST by Col. William R. Cox (1864); recollections (1902) of Battle of Spotsylvania by Daniel Lane, Co. F, 2nd Regt.
