Despite her illness she has made progress on the farm and reports on various crops and animals. She is worried that a bear will get the cows and pigs during the cold snap they are experiencing. She writes about making honey beer, cider, and honey brandy and the apples, grape juice, and other crops that she has sold to the local soldiers. She asks her husband how much she should charge for various things that people say he promised to sell them. She gives news received from a soldier on furlough on where some men have gone to and asks about the location of a local man whose wife has not heard him since he left for the war. There have been more calls for conscripts in the county.
