She relates family news to Henry, including that 'Rohadah's' baby has died. She is worried that she is missing Henry's letters because ''my name is spelt so different from the way I am called no one hardley noes my name so I think it would be best to back by letters Mrs Henry H Bowen and perhaps I would be more apt to get them'' William has been discharged but Langley and Alfred Garland have gone to the 17th regiment. Asa Allen chose to join the cavalry and came home to get a horse, but may not go back. She writes a more detailed account of the taking of Plymouth and the sinking of the C.S.S. Albemarle ironclad, including that the Confederates didn't keep a guard on the ship. The steam mill was lost in the assault on the town and Ann and Mary lost crops they had taken to the mill. Ann fears that the Yankees will come destroy her home, so she is afraid to leave the house.
