He lived in Craven County, N.C., and Pamlico County, N.C., before his family moved to Raleigh, N.C., in 1942. Myron Banks attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1955, and served in the U.S. Navy on active duty from September 1955 to January 1960. Banks reached the rank of Captain during his military career.  After enlisting in the U.S. Navy, Banks was selected to attend the Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, where he was trained as an Officer Candidate Seaman Apprentice (OCSA). He was then commissioned to serve in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps. Banks would attend the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia, and Navy Exchange Management School in Brooklyn, New York. After completion of his training, Banks was stationed at U.S. Naval Station Coco Solo, a Navy submarine base and naval air station on the Atlantic Ocean side of the Panama Canal Zone in Panama. During his service in Panama, he served as a Navy Exchange Officer, and held additional court-martial duties. Banks left Panama in December 1957. Banks was accepted to the U.S. Navy law specialist program at the end of 1957. He attended the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island. After training, he finished his active duty as an assistant legal officer at the U.S. Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Banks was released from active duty in January 1960. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserve in April 1960, to which he remained affiliated until January 1979. Initially, he was affiliated with the Naval Reserve Officers School (NROS6-2) in Raleigh, N.C. In 1967, Banks became the Commanding Officer of the OJAG Unit in Raleigh. Around 1970, he became affiliated with the Naval Reserve Law Company until 1979.
