In October 1913, it was moved to the Mission House Reading Room on Main Street in Blowing Rock. Mrs. Carter worked with Reverend William Savage (episcopal minister in Blowing Rock from 1902-1917) in raising several hundred dollars for the construction of the building. The Mary Nelson Carter Memorial Library fell into disuse after Reverend Savage was reassigned to Virginia Beach. In 1918, a local resident collected a number of the books from the floor of the Mission House, ultimately preventing their destruction in the building's 1923 fire. These few books, augmented by small private donations, were all that remained of the Lend-A-Hand Library. In September of 1928, an anonymous benefactor donated about six hundred volumes to the library. Blowing Rock's Community Club helped finance the purchase of 1,000 more books. The Community Club decided to share this bounty with the local school, and on November 13, 1928, the Blowing Rock Community and School Library held its grand opening."},{"label":"Format","value":["Postcards"]},{"label":"Type","value":["Image"]},{"label":"Language","value":["English"]},{"label":"Notes Internal","value":"Collection folder: Appalachian Region.; Public domain."},{"label":"Pres Filename","value":"tts_appalachian_pcard_0001a.tif-tts_appalachian_pcard_0001b.tif"},{"label":"Identifier","value":"tts_appalachian_pcard_0001a.tif-tts_appalachian_pcard_0001b.tif"}],"description":"Mary Nelson Carter's \"Lend-a-Hand\" Library and reading room","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/278bc52f-a55a-4d80-bb52-b5304f1dfab9/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"tts_appalachian_pcard_0001a","height":2058,"width":3246,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/243e4aad-7ae2-4b74-98fd-6f99005b893c/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/243e4aad-7ae2-4b74-98fd-6f99005b893c","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4]}]},"height":2058,"width":3246},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/278bc52f-a55a-4d80-bb52-b5304f1dfab9/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/243e4aad-7ae2-4b74-98fd-6f99005b893c/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}},{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/278bc52f-a55a-4d80-bb52-b5304f1dfab9/canvas/_2","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"tts_appalachian_pcard_0001b","height":2093,"width":3283,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/a33b340c-a12e-4baa-9116-3e0aa7329834/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jp2","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/a33b340c-a12e-4baa-9116-3e0aa7329834","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":2093,"width":3283},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/278bc52f-a55a-4d80-bb52-b5304f1dfab9/canvas/_2","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/a33b340c-a12e-4baa-9116-3e0aa7329834/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/243e4aad-7ae2-4b74-98fd-6f99005b893c/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/ncdcr/iiif/logo"}
