She was valued at about $200,000, and was considered one of the finest boats in the line, insured for about 2/3 of her value by European Companies. Storm clouds gathered, and by the time the 'City of Houston' reached the Frying Pan Shoals off the coast of Wilmington, NC, a full-fledged hurricane was roaring through her masts.\" On the 23rd, the ship sank with all its cargo, not to be discovered until July 1987.
