The greatest volume of legal correspondence dates from the year 1866 and almost all of it relates to affairs of clients hard pressed by the postbellum financial conditions in those two states. Few of the letters in the general correspondence touch on politics, but several are worth attention, including one from James H. Smith (brother-in-law to Pou), Pensacola, Fla. (July 7, 1868). In addition to his law practice and a brief political life, Pou was a successful farmer. There are several letters of interest exchanged between Edward Pou and his brother, Joseph Felder Pou, and his brother-in-law, W.B. Bowen, of Tuskegee, both of whom managed Edward Pou's farming interests in Alabama and Georgia. Their letters range from 1866 to 1868. There are documents of Johnston County local interest, most undated, but probably as early as 1868/69 to the 1870s."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"5 pages"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["Edward William Pou Papers.
