He reflects on growing up in Greensboro before leaving to attend North Carolina Central University for his bachelor's degree and Texas Southern University for law school. He describes later returning to Greensboro to practice law. In many of his cases, he advocated for African Americans by fighting against racial discrimination and violence. This interview was conducted by B. Bernetiae Reed on January 23, 2024, for the South Benbow Road National Register of Historic Places Nomination and in collaboration with the City of Greensboro Historic Planning Office. South Benbow Road is a historically Black neighborhood in Greensboro, North Carolina and this project helps preserve the neighborhood and city’s history through the voices of its residents. The Oral History collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina. This unit seeks to work with individuals and communities across the state to record and preserve the lived experience of North Carolinians, as told by North Carolinians and to make these histories accessible for generations to come. This interview contains content that may be harmful or difficult to view, including language that reflects outdated, biased, offensive views as well as descriptions of conflict, racism, and violence."},{"label":"Date","value":"D:23 M:01 Y:2024"},{"label":"Rights","value":"All rights for this interview held by State Archives of North Carolina.
