Included are letters about commissary supplies (1781); a printed circular to the militia (1798); correspondence with secretary of war, President Washington, and others concerning appointment of officers in provisional army; and list of applicants for commissions (1798). Letters from Senators Alexander Martin and Timothy Bloodworth to Governor Davie reports impeachment of William Blount by the U.S. Senate (1799). His papers as envoy include instructions from secretary of war; a few letters; drafts of a proposed treaty; list of ship papers carried by American vessels; list of spoliation claims against France by American citizens for illegal seizure of vessels. Two volumes of \"Proceedings\" contain copies of correspondence during the negotiations. Transcribed letters concern activities as officer (1780); N.C. ratification of the U.S. Constitution; lands given to UNC; presentation of the treaty with France to U.S. president and Senate (1801); the \"Tyranny of Virginia\" in national politics; and the War of 1812. Correspondents include James McHenry, Timothy Pickering, George Washington, Oliver Ellsworth, Archibald Henderson, Col. William Polk, Alexander Martin, Timothy Bloodworth, James Read, and Spruce Macay.
