They might have been brought together, in the first place by James S. Purdie. There was a family member of that name who was sheriff of Bladen County and was also, for a duration, the Clerk of Court of Bladen County. There are grants, deeds, and so forth, not only of James S. Purdie, but of James B. Purdie, James W. Purdie, and others including James Richardson, Samuel N. Richardson, Sr., and Jr., Purdie Richardson, James Johnston, Lewis Averitt, Hezekiah Jones, John Dickinson, and Thomas White. The papers relating to James W. Purdie of Bladen Co. concern especially his administration of the Bladen Co. estate of Donald McDonald (1851-1878). His personal papers include bills, tax receipts, and three letters about timber, horses, and iron (1856-1863). Also in collection are a Bladen Co. deed to Matthew Laspeyne (1829) and a New Hanover Co. petition concerning estate of Thomas F. Robeson (1867)."},{"label":"Digital Characteristics","value":"1 page"},{"label":"Format","value":["Finding aids"]},{"label":"Rights","value":"The SA of NC considers this item in the public domain by U.S. law but responsibility for permissions rests with researchers."},{"label":"Source Collections","value":["James S.
