NCT, prisoner on Johnson's Island, Ohio, and state attorney general (1878-1886), including commissions; military orders and a few letters concerning equipment, organization, and regulations (1861-1862); recommendation of Kenan by fellow officers of 2nd Regt. N.C. Volunteers (12th Regt. NCT); list of casualties at Gettysburg, Co. A, 43rd Regt.; and clippings satirizing Lincoln and giving history (1863) of 6th Regt. NCT. From the Federal prison on Johnson's Island, Ohio, are copy of letter to Governor Vance from 224 North Carolina officers there (1864); playbills for prison entertainments; letter from commander about prisoner exchange; and Kenan's autograph book containing signatures of fellow prisoners of war, poems including one by a Choctaw prisoner from South Carolina, and three drawings of the prison, Gettysburg, and Point La Flore, Miss. Also copy of postwar listing of Confederate prisoners on Johnson's Island from 1863 to 1865; and letter from federal government on procurement of back \"rebel\" pay (1866). Also in the collection are Wake Co. enlistment papers for 95 men in \"Artillery, Engineering, and Ordnance\" (1861), later 10th Regt. NCST (1st Regt. N.C. Artillery).
