Photographs depict the various booths from a selection of North Carolina counties at the 1884 North Carolina State Exposition held in Raleigh. Each booth featured natural resources and crops specific to the county. The exposition was intended to boost industrial development and portray the state as a strong economic player in the New South that had fully recovered from the Civil War. This collection of photographic negatives and prints is made up of the photographs taken and overseen by Herbert Hutchinson Brimley (1861-1946) for the Department of Agriculture, the North Carolina Geological Survey and the State Museum.
