Locklear discusses his family history and his upbringing in rural Robeson County. He reflects on his teaching career and on his identity as a member of the Lumbee Indian tribe of North Carolina. This interview was conducted by Kerry Bird, from the American Indian Hertiage Commission, on August 13, 2024. The Oral History collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina. This unit seeks to work with individuals and communities across the state to record and preserve the lived experience of North Carolinians, as told by North Carolinians and to make these histories accessible for generations to come.
