Gorman (d. 1893), Raleigh printer, captain in 2nd Regt. NCT, N.C. adjutant general (1872-1877), and mayor of Raleigh (1875). These consist of typescript of his diary (May-Oct., 1864) describing the Battle of Spotsylvania, his capture, and his imprisonment in Washington, D.C., Ft. Delaware, Md., and a prison hospital at Beaufort, S.C. Three original letters are from Gorman at Beaufort. Clippings include four letters from Gorman describing battles from South Mountain to Gettysburg; the Daily Confederate (Raleigh), June 6, 1864, reporting his capture; and an article (1905) on the \"Lowrie Gang\" of Robeson Co. (1863-1875), alleging complicity of Adjutant General Gorman. Also T. M.
