The style is evocative of totem poles crated by that region's indigenous peoples. The bird is standing astride a two-headed serpentine animal, with one head each facing the outer edge of the page; this animal is the Sisiutl, a magical, water snake spirit and the god of warrior invincibility and guardian of the house of the sky people, in the mythology of various Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest including the artist's tribe. According to folklore, the thunderbird is a predator of the Sisiutl. The bird's wings are outspread and one head of the animal below is under each wing. The bird has a prominent orange beak and the head is turned to the viewer's right. At the bottom center between the two heads of the serpent is another head upon which the bird is perched. This head is primarily dark green with black brow and large nostrils with red holes, white teeth, red lips and lolling red tongue. Several notations are handwritten in graphite along bottom edge: \"24/160\" at bottom left; \"Thunderbird and Sisiutl\" at bottom center; \"Jonathan Henderson\" at bottom right."},{"label":"Material","value":["Print","Paper"]},{"label":"Medium","value":["Print","Serigraph"]},{"label":"Format","value":["Serigraph"]},{"label":"Title","value":"Thunderbird and Sisiutl"},{"label":"Culture","value":["Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl)"]},{"label":"Artist","value":["Henderson, Jonathan"]}],"description":"Thunderbird and Sisiutl","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/9437d58b-6cc0-426b-aa92-7918466011f4/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Thunderbird and Sisiutl","height":13011,"width":16592,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/9437d58b-6cc0-426b-aa92-7918466011f4/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/9437d58b-6cc0-426b-aa92-7918466011f4","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":2048,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4,8,16]}]},"height":13011,"width":16592},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/9437d58b-6cc0-426b-aa92-7918466011f4/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/9437d58b-6cc0-426b-aa92-7918466011f4/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/9437d58b-6cc0-426b-aa92-7918466011f4/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/nationalcowboymuseum/iiif/logo"}
