Of his brother's orchard he says : \"Some of the trees I find still standing and also part of the post-and-rail fence he enclosed them with.\" (Report of Commission to Governor H. H. Haight, 1869), and remained there the rest of his life. He built the first log cabin in Yosemite, locating on the south side of the Valley.
