He shares two close calls from the day: one where he nearly fired on a pair of loose mules he mistook for rebel cavalry in the dark, and another where a comrade's musket accidentally discharged, narrowly missing his head. Despite being exhausted from a strictly enforced \"no sleep\" policy while on guard, he ends the letter with affectionate messages for his children and a firm reminder to his wife not to lend out his blankets again.\n\nJohn P. Fell was a soldier in the 7th Pennsylvania Reserve Regiment.
