Isbell wrote to a woman named Anna to let her know he is ready to march at a moment's notice for what he expects will be a fight. He gave her a firsthand account of a recent skirmish where his unit ambushed a train full of Union troops attempting to rebuild a bridge. Robert claimed they sent the enemy fleeing into the woods and left the tracks stained with blood, despite the newspapers reporting different numbers.
