Tells Cowper that unless a request is made to him, the Archbishop of Canterbury will not intervene, but is troubled by the actions of the Bishop of Adelaide (who had objected to Saumarez Smith's election on the grounds that the election was invalid). Commends Cowper's efforts to keep peace in the Diocese. Expresses sorrow at the poor state of Mrs Cowper's health.
