Reproduction of a newspaper report replying to a protest against the Contagious Diseases Acts signed by 'sixty ladies of the highest character and position', complaining that the law sanctions gross and systematic outrage on women and results in vice, and demanding repeal.  Article condemns the immorality of soldiers, describes how Acts were passed hastily and their enforcement of Acts in garrison towns leads to compulsory inspection and treatment of women suspected of prostitution 'just that those sensitive and pampered gentry in barracks may run no risk in their sensual indulgences'. Argues against the extension of the system to the whole civil population of England and consequent risks to innocent women.  Ladies of England including Miss Martineau and Florence Nightingale have protested against this 'odious tyranny'.  The alleged remedy would be worse than the evil it is meant to cure. Personal rights and moral interests involved are too sacred to be the sport of doctrinaire experiments.
