It provided a Women's Hall and Cost Price Restaurant after its opening on 5 May 1914, Sylvia Pankhurst's birthday. 'If you do not serve others', admonished her radical barrister father, 'You will not be worth the upbringing.' Her life shows energetic activities, significantly at Maytime. She is named on the plaque as Norah Smyth, Treasurer if the ELFS, whose fortune supported the social and political ambitions, including the weekly newspaper, Women's later workers Dreadnought. Her nephew, Mr C Isolani, CBE, LVO, cut the cake, made by the publican, Dave Watson, behind him, to his right. Foregrounded is Caroline Benn, author of the recent biography of Keir Hardie, Sylvia's beloved mentor. Mrs Benn wore red.
