Rosemary Taylor's book IN LETTERS OF GOLD (Stepney Books, 4.95, 1993) is an illustrated history of ELFS. She was the enthusiast behind the plaque, and another at 45, Norman Grove, formerly a Toy Factory run on co-operative lines, with pay to its women workers of 1 a week, equal to the average industrial rate paid to men. A crche was also provided. She is with Mr C Isolani, CBE, LVO nephew of Norah Smyth, who is named along with Sylvia on the plaque. Her fortune backed the activities of the ELFS of which she was the Treasurer. This included a weekly newspaper, Women's, later Workers' Dreadnought. Dave Watson, publican is next to him. He had decorated his pub with the colours of the Women's Social & Political Union (WSPU), purple, green and white.
