Read the Postscript'.\nThe State of Chatham since the suspension of the CD Acts in May 1883.  A statement that appeared in the Chatham Observer 13 Jun 1885 from the committee who have for 10 years represented the opposition to the Contagious Diseases Acts, in consequence of the application of the Chatham Board of Health to the Premier on 17 Apr 1885 for the renewal of the compulsory provisions of the Acts. The deputations to the government, urging the same views as the Board, have not succeeded for we do not find the five CD Acts police restored to Chatham; and we venture to think the Premier would hesitate for we have reason to believe he is acquainted with the following facts (all supported by statistical evidence):\nConvictions of disorderly women have reduced\nUnparalleled reduction in crime in the town since Acts suspended.  Often no cases referred for trial. Recorder speaks of very great improvement and Mayor states town much quieter. Policing reduced.
