UN 130709 UNITED NATIONS, New York, 26 Jan 1976, The Ad Hoc Committee on the Review of the Role of the UN in the Field of Disarmament held its first meeting this afternoon and unanimously elected Mrs Inga Thorsson (Sweden) as its Chairman. The organizational session was opened by Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim. The Committee was established by the last General Assembly in resolution 3484 (XXX) B and is 'open to the participation of all Member States, to carry out a basic review of the role of the UN in the disarmament field'. Under the resolution, the Committee is asked to meet for a short organizational meeting of no longer than one week this month and for substantive sessions in the summer and autumn.
