'Mr Saunders supports this legislation but admits it is so bad that he dare not hint to the Electors of Kendal that it may come into this town.  Why allow other towns to suffer from Laws from which Kendal determines to be free? Let us help to shut up the system everywhere.' Mr Saunders is quoted as saying he 'knows all about these Acts' and likened to a Cuttle Fish enveloping himself in muddy waterby attacking 'pure, noble-minded women who have come forth to help their poor sisters' in towns where the Acts apply.
