They 'consider the measure fraught with a large amount of mischief and calculated to do no good'.  Claims that Mr Lewis 'harps upon' a document favourable to the extension of the Contagious Diseases Acts signed by many medical men, many of whom have since become advocates of repeal.  The 18 eminent doctors putting their names to the protest are selected from hundreds of supporters.
