Poster reprinting a letter published in the Devonport Independent newspaper 28 Jul 1870 from W B Williams and Daniel Cooper, Rescue Society, 85 Queen St, Cheapside, London.  Refutes allegations that statistics quoted earlier by the Rescue Society were 'claptrap' and offers facts from the Albert Hospital Devonport, about the declining percentage of patients 'reclaimed', and 'frightful number of readmissions' as evidence of the 'hardening tendencies' of the Acts. Refers to the successes of the London 'Homes of Hope'. States that the compulsory system of the Contagious Diseases Acts is depraving and hateful to fallen women, whilst the voluntary system of admission and treatment is not.  Difficult for chaplains to administer religious instruction to women, when others in authority intend the healed patients for the use of troops.  Prostitutes are enjoying the care of the chaplain and brother keeper alternately.
