That Brownson House has succeeded in listening to the beating hearts of a foreign people during the past years and with close attention has tried to provide correct[strikethrough: s]   channels for their repressed emotions can best be understood not from the activities which are in operation at present but from letters which come from boys and girls who grew up in the playground, from the tongues of mothers who shake   their heads and draw deep sigs of relief when they tell you how they remember with joy the days when Antonio and Juanita used to help at Brownson,and when the young men themselves from over the seas come back to dance again and spend a social evening with the workers,recounting pleasant in-cidents of some such social event of years ago at Brownson House.       These are the heart to heart touches that this settlement house exper-iences as it widens its work long ago begun. These are the stories which are carried from Los Angeles to El Paso,-- the stories which today bring the Mex-ican family right from the early morning train to the settlement house door. You are the friend waiting for me in Los Angeles is the sentiment which the expressions of face and manner show as they grip the hands of the workers and afterwards ask them for guidance as to where they shall rent a house.
