In October of 1910, in response to Otis' anti-union efforts, unionists bombed the Times' headquarters at the corner of 1st and Broadway. In 1911, construction began on a new headquarters, located at 1st and Spring Streets. The new building opened in 1935 and was, at the time, the largest building in the United States designed and occupied as a daily newspaper publishing operation. It was designed by Gordon B.
