May 8, 1929 Mr. Francisco C. Venegas Guadalajara, Jal. México Dear brother: I respond to your letter written on the 21st of April by which we know all of you are doing fine. Lola has received a letter from my mother. I still have not received any news from Soledad even though I answered her letter a long time ago. I was hoping that, because of certain activities pursued by the Compañia [code for Cristeros], where I assume Alfonso works, something could be known about him; that is all. Don Silviano paid some monies that I exchanged for a son of don Epitacio Nuño which leads me to believe that he was left in charge of the money that Anita had. I acknowledge what you tell me regarding the lands and the houses. We have been in poor health, that is, Lola and the boys; the latter has a cough and a cold and Eduardo a bit of asthma. But Lola is worse, because it has been a month now that she has had a skin irritation on her face that sometimes thickens her skin and itches very much producing a sticky moisture that drips and she becomes very sick. And when she begins to get better and appears to have healed, it once again returns. Two doctors have seen her and they told her it is a skin disease, but I believe it comes from the stomach and the blood. Pray to God that we all get well for if illnesses are a calamity for everyone, they are even worse when one cannot stop working for one day. Lola was helping me very much in the store, but now I wish that she could at least take care of the family. At any rate God be praised who remembers us, and I welcome the tribulations and afflictions which forces us to raise our eyes [to heaven, away] from the miseries of this world. As always all of you receive the sincere affection from all of us in this house who are in exile and give our regards to all of our friends who still remember us. M.
