Mr. Juan Venegas Guadalajara, Jal. My esteemed compadre: We were very pleased to know that all is well with you. We also have nothing to complain about thanks be to God. It appears that my comadre’s illnesses have let up, she should by now be more rested; in the photograph she looks good in spite of the fact that she had been so sick. May God grant that she continue in good health so that when I return I will find her in better health than when I left her. It's a good thing that Pancho is trying other medicines and God grant that it will be sufficient so as to avoid an operation, since I am very fearful of operations, although sometimes they are necessary. We know through the newspaper that (Archbishop) Orozco y Jiménez [from Guadalajara] is here, but we have not seen him. We would very much like to greet him; if we find out where he is we will go see him. We are always with the desire of returning and we see that the day never comes, God knows how long we will remain here. The boys have days that as soon as they remember something from over there, they are raring to go back. They remember many things very well especially when we would go to the ranch and they want to know if the little donkey and little dog are still there. Don’t think for a minute that they have forgotten anything. Even Lalo says that he remembers, and this at the age of one year, goes to show you just what good memories my children have. The baby girl already walks, she is very chubby and has rosy cheeks she is just a doll and we are just crazy about her, it must be because she is the only girl. You will see, soon we will photograph her and when you see her you can tell me what you think of her, she is just plain but very cute. If Chayo were to come this way, it would give us much pleasure to go see her. When you next visit her please give her our regards, and tell her when she has time to write to us, it would give us much pleasure, and to please always remember us in her prayers. Our compadre José, the baby girl’s godfather, already left for Mexico with all of his family. He is in the Capital, and he wrote to us, saying not to even think of returning because things get worse by the day. We also received a letter from Jesús Ruiz and he tells us to go so we can all be under the protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe, that over there, there are many things one can do. He even gives Miguel the idea of starting a bakery; that it would give him very good results, as would a pasta factory. I believe that the best thing for us to do is to wait and see how things continue and not move before then."},{"label":"Is Part Of","value":"Venegas Family Papers, Collection Number 99, Series 1. It is a very good idea to close on Sundays even if just for the afternoon. That's what we do on Sundays. We close around one or two and we open again at six. I've been writing this letter for a long time and on top of this I was sick in bed for five days. I had a very bad cold and for that reason I am just now finishing this letter. Miguel must have told you by now what happened to us. It's not enough that business has been so bad, they even robbed us. Don't think that it bothered me, I see it as a natural thing, ever since everything was taken from us over there, I have not grown attached to anything. My only joy is my husband and my children, as long as God grants us health, what else can I desire since we are not lacking for food. Tell Agustin to write to us, we have not seen his writing for a long time, and to tell us everything, since he loves to talk so much. A few days ago I had a bad toothache, and you can just imagine how I was, just thank God that I wasn't there with you because God only knows how it would have been with you. I had to go to the doctor. I wanted to have it filled but the x-rays revealed pus, and so there was no other remedy but to pull it out. I wrote to my comadre and she has not answered me, is it because she did not receive it or that she doesn't have time. Tell her to have Lupita write it for her and to tell me everything, she writes very well; I have seen her letters that she sends to the boys and they are very well written. I will write no more because I am very boring, I write a lot but say nothing, and cannot be understood, because even I cannot understand my own writing. Receive greetings from Miguel and each one of the children. My regards to each one of the children and for you and my comadre the most sincere affection from the least of your daughters., Dolores D. de Venegas"},{"label":"Is Part Of","value":"Venegas Family Papers, Collection Number 99, Series 1.
