April 13, 1930 Mrs. Julia C. de Venegas Guadalajara Jal. My esteemed Comadre: The present is to thank you for all you have done for me on my feast day. Our Lord will reward you because I may not be able to. I received the letter on my feast day and you can just imagine the joy it gave me and more so when I realized what you all did for me on that day. You were the only ones who remembered me on that day and I am very grateful to you. It saddens me to know about Doña María, and I feel for Cuca, but nothing can be done, it is the end that awaits us all. When you do see Cuca, please give her my regards, and that from here I accompany her in her sorrow. This Sunday I had intentions of offering Communion for Doña María but I was unable to do so, because of so many people wanting to comply with the Lent regulation, and since I could not wait very long because I had to be at the store so that Miguel and the boys could go to Mass, but please God, I will do so next Sunday. The boys always remember all of you and how they used to play there, and are always wishing they could go back. Miguelito is now very big, as you can see in the photo. The one I cannot keep up with is our Juanito [a year and nine months old], this one beats them all, do not think he is difficult, he doesn't bother me at all, but he is mischievous like no other in the group. Just take a good look at him, and his face says what he is; to show you to what extent he is mischievous, one day he placed a chair near the stove and was trying to take out some beans with a knife, while they were boiling. Don't think he burned himself; he would wait some time before he would eat them, and without any salt. I kept watching him just to see what he would do because I thought he would burn himself, but he was careful to allow them to cool off before eating them. This gives you an idea what he is like. And poor Eduardo [4 years old] is his victim. One day he hit him on the head with a pair of scissors, but don't think that he [Eduardo] defended himself, he kept yelling: “No Juanito, no,” and that was all. I came in when I heard him shouting and if I had not been there, one wonders what would have happened to Lalo since he didn't defend himself. We attended the Missions [a series of religious sermons] given the week before and they were very good, and wished you would have been able to attend. I have been waiting for my father [Don Silviano] to come for a long time now, because he writes to say he is going to come, but I don't know when that day will be. Regards from Miguel and the boys, to Don Juan and each of the children, and for you in particular my affection from your daughter-in-law who appreciates you very much.
