Dockweiler and Gertrude Reeve Dockweiler. He began his career as a secretary in the U.S. Diplomatic Service in 1918. He has served at the embassies in Beijing, Tokyo, Santo Domingo, and Madrid, among others. After leaving diplomatic service in 1926, Henry Dockweiler joined the family law firm and became a well-known Los Angeles lawyer. Active in politics, Henry Dockweiler served as treasurer of the Democratic State Central Committee (1946-1948). He was delegate to the 1948 Democratic National Convention, and he chaired the California Truman for President Committee. Later, though, he aligned himself with the Republicans as a leader in the campaigns of Democrats for Eisenhower and for Nixon, and also supported Richard Nixon in his 1968 run for the presidency. Like his sister Mary, he cherished philanthropic causes, serving on the boards of St. John of God Hospital, Mount St. Mary's College, and the Los Angeles Orphanage. For his charitable work, Pope Paul VI made him a Knight of St. Gregory in 1967."},{"label":"Rights","value":"https://library.lmu.edu/archivesandspecialcollections/copyrightandreproductionpolicy/"}],"description":"Henry Isidore Dockweiler, circa 1910s","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/cf967c03-4d41-4afe-8c28-92096ac0f2cf/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"Henry Isidore Dockweiler, circa 1910s","height":4590,"width":3229,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/cf967c03-4d41-4afe-8c28-92096ac0f2cf/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/tif","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/cf967c03-4d41-4afe-8c28-92096ac0f2cf","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":1024,"scaleFactors":[1,2,4,8]}]},"height":4590,"width":3229},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/cf967c03-4d41-4afe-8c28-92096ac0f2cf/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/cf967c03-4d41-4afe-8c28-92096ac0f2cf/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/cf967c03-4d41-4afe-8c28-92096ac0f2cf/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/logo"}
