A. Calif. August 10, 1930 Mr. Juan Venegas Guadalajara, Jal. México My dear Father: Your letter dated the 26th of July was received opportunely, and if I have not answered it until now it is because I have been a bit busier now since I do not want Lola to spend too much time in the store [Lola is six months pregnant with Teresa]. We also received two previous ones and I am made perfectly aware of what you tell me in reference to the parcels of land and to the person who is there; and to which I am very much in agreement. This person tells me to let him know as soon as possible so he can calculate how much to pay for the rental of the lands, he also tells me that since I didn't give him an immediate answer regarding the pasture and that since D. Silviano had told him not to sell the pasture for less than one peso per head, that many who were interested went away to some other places, and that now seeing how time was passing by he decided to sell it at 75 cents per head and that this will be credited to my account so that I can at least be helped with something. This person wants to know if I will allow him to have his cows without charging pasture for the work he has put into repairing the stretch of the wall. I think that will be all right although I don't know how many animals he may have. It has been one month since he wrote to me and I haven't answered him yet. And now I want to refer to what you tell me in your last letter. It's about time the sun shines for those people. I hope it is definite for the saying goes that there is no bad thing that lasts one hundred years, although I think that only if one doesn't breathe will the danger end, anyway something is something and I even believe that under this current administration there is more hope of obtaining greater justice because it appears that finally this Mr. Rubio is governing with more common sense. A few days ago when the personal secretary of Mr. President was here I attended a meeting where he spoke and I was favorably impressed with the work that is unfolding over there. I remain impatient for news from the hometown. Tell me all you know, for now I believe everyone can speak clearly. This is it for today because it is very late at night. I hope everyone is in good health, everyone over here is fine and they all send their regards. Your son who asks for your blessing. M.
