In 2016, John August Swanson was approached by a friend, Martin Marklin of Marklin Candle Design, about a project. Both Swanson and Marklin read Pope Francis' second encyclical, Laudato Si', and they wanted to create an homage to the work. Marklin, a bee keeper and candle maker, wanted to make a play on words using the English translation of \"Laudato Si'\" (\"Praised Be\") by replacing \"Be\" with \"Bee\" and to use the opportunity to discuss environmental change and its effect on bees. Swanson immediately thought of the bee detail from his 2009 serigraph The Last Supper. The Swanson Studio printed an enlargement of the detail which was then colored by Swanson, and sent to Marklin. Marklin would later create a 5\" x 5\" booklet using the artwork on the cover, and Swanson would use the piece for his 2017 Praised Bee poster."},{"label":"Date","value":"D:23 M:04 Y:2009"},{"label":"Creator","value":"Swanson, John August, 1938-2021"},{"label":"Digital Format","value":"JPG"},{"label":"Style Period","value":["21st Century"]}],"description":"Line art detail of Praised Bee","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/b97e46da-68c7-4710-a88c-9ba3f8ed1b8b/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"LML_AR11_JAS_056_000010001-1","height":209,"width":133,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/e7e13f64-918f-4c12-b1ce-62457e26d51e/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/e7e13f64-918f-4c12-b1ce-62457e26d51e","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json","tiles":[{"width":512,"scaleFactors":[1]}]},"height":209,"width":133},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/b97e46da-68c7-4710-a88c-9ba3f8ed1b8b/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/e7e13f64-918f-4c12-b1ce-62457e26d51e/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/e7e13f64-918f-4c12-b1ce-62457e26d51e/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/lmudigitalcollections/iiif/logo"}
